NEW YORK – New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced a limited number of authentic, commemorative Broadway Street signs are for sale in celebration of Broadway Week. As part of the agency's monthly 'sign drops,' Broadway signs are hand-made at the NYC DOT Sign Shop, which produces over 70,000 signs each year.

Imagine a piece of the Great White Way, its thrills, its songs- it's old Broadway. From City Hall to Washington Heights, it winds through city and shines its lights. It's a once-in-a-lifetime shot to take it home. A Broadway sign can be anyone's to own. A limited release of 50 signs will be sold online for $75 each and are available one per customer. All signs will be sold via the CityStore, the Official Store of the City of New York, and proceeds will benefit the city's general fund.

"Legends are born on Broadway and it's impossible to think of a single street better recognized for its influence on arts and culture, not just in New York City, but the entire world," said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "We hope Broadway fans will rise and seize the day for their chance to take home a piece of the Great White Way."

"Broadway is the intersection of our great city's culture, history, community, and so much more. On Broadway, stars are made, dreams come true, and audiences get to experience incredible performances that stay with them for a lifetime. Now is your chance to, literally, bring it home," said DCAS Commissioner Louis A. Molina. "We are thrilled that Broadway fans will have the opportunity to celebrate the renowned avenue's history and their love of theater with a piece of The Great White Way. You do not want to throw away your shot at grabbing one of these unique signs."

Broadway is New York City's oldest and longest North-South thoroughfare, stretching from Bowling Green, Manhattan up to as far as Westchester. Its legacy is deeply entwined with being the center of the American commercial theatrical industry, as many theaters are located on or near Broadway. NYC DOT has developed a Broadway Vision plan that seeks to reclaim and transform public spaces along the storied boulevard, from Union Square to Columbus Circle.

Broadway Week is an annual event in New York City that promotes discounted tickets to Broadway shows. It is a collaboration between The Broadway League and New York City Tourism + Convention. It takes place from January 21 to February 9.

Monthly sign drops from NYC DOT feature signs for iconic New York City streets, commemorations of famous New Yorkers, celebrations of special occasions, and other custom releases. NYC DOT began its monthly drops in June 2024, with the release of Christopher Street/Stonewall Place street signs to commemorate Pride Month.

Other recent sign drops include:

  • Beastie Boys Square to honor the 35th anniversary of the group's Paul's Boutique album.
  • Cornelia Street to honor the street's prominence among pop music fans.
  • Stan Lee Way to honor the comic book legend as comic fans from around the world descended upon New York City.
  • Rivera Avenue to commemorate Yankees great Mariano Rivera.
  • Wu-Tang District street signs honoring the legendary hip-hop group from Park Hill on Staten Island.
