Limited Edition Love Lane Signs Are Available in Historic District Brown and Sweetheart Pink

NEW YORK – New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced a limited number of authentic street signs commemorating Brooklyn's Love Lane, for sale in celebration of Valentine's Day. As part of the agency's monthly 'sign drops,' Love Lane signs are hand-made at the NYC DOT Sign Shop, which produces over 70,000 signs each year.

"From Harry and Sally's slow burn for the ages to Loretta demanding Ronny 'Snap out of it!', New York is the backdrop for some of the greatest love stories ever told, including your own," said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. "Bring a piece of New York's passionate and vibrant history into your life with an authentic Love Lane street sign, for the love you just can't snap out of."

"New York City's historic Love Lane serves as a reminder that, in this city, love is all around you—even on the streets," said DCAS Commissioner Louis Molina. "Thanks to our partners at DOT, this Valentine's Day you can give a gift that celebrates the 19th century architecture in the heart of Brooklyn Heights. Whether you are a Brooklyn native or just appreciate the charming character of Love Lane, there is no better way to celebrate this February than with one of these exclusive, handcrafted signs."

While there are many theories for how the narrow Brooklyn Heights street earned its name, local legend suggests Love Lane was once go-to destination for young Dutch settlers to stroll on warm summer evenings. While the history is uncertain, there's one thing we can all agree on, romance is alive and well on Love Lane and throughout the five boroughs. No one loves harder than New Yorkers. Don't miss out on this special opportunity to find your Serendipity or create your own You've Got Mail moment when you see a handcrafted replica of the Love Lane street sign arrive at your door.

A limited release of 100 signs, 50 in Historic District Brown, and 50 in Sweetheart Pink, will be sold online for $75 each and are available one per customer. All signs will be sold via the CityStore, the Official Store of the City of New York, and proceeds will benefit the city's general fund.

Monthly sign drops from NYC DOT feature signs for iconic New York City streets, commemorations of famous New Yorkers, celebrations of special occasions, and other custom releases. NYC DOT began its monthly drops in June 2024, with the release of Christopher Street/Stonewall Place street signs to commemorate Pride Month.

Other recent sign drops include:

  • Broadway in celebration of Broadway Week.
  • Beastie Boys Square to honor the 35th anniversary of the group's Paul's Boutique album.
  • Cornelia Street to honor the street's prominence among pop music fans.
  • Stan Lee Way to honor the comic book legend as comic fans from around the world descended upon New York City.
