NEW YORK – New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced a limited number of authentic, ‘Stan Lee Way’ commemorative street signs are for sale as comic book fans gather in New York City. As part of the agency’s monthly ‘sign drops,’ ‘Stan Lee Way’ signs are hand-made at the NYC DOT Sign Shop, which produces over 70,000 signs each year.

To get fans’ Spidey senses tingling, a limited edition of 100 signs, 50 in ‘Authentic Green’ and 50 ‘Comic Book Edition’ will be sold online for $75 each and are available one per customer. All signs will be sold via the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ CityStore, the Official Store of the City of New York, and proceeds will benefit the city's general fund.

“Sometimes being a superhero is about the strength of your character, not the strength of your power. Now, you can honor that inner hero with a ‘Stan Lee Way’ sign of your own,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez.“I hope fans and heroes alike will check it out – and stay tuned for our next monthly sign drop, which will allow all who love New York City to celebrate the people, places, and special occasions that make it the greatest city in the world. Excelsior!”

“A cultural icon, Stan Lee, has gifted the world with stories that captivate, inspire, and make us believe in the heart of a hero. With this sign release, you have a chance to gift yourself or the superhero in your life a piece of history,” said NYC DCAS Commissioner Louis A. Molina. “Swing into action and grab your limited-edition sign today.”

'Stan Lee Way' at University Avenue between Brandt Place and 7 West 176th Street in Morris Heights commemorates the comic book legend’s life in the Bronx, where he grew up. Stan Lee is known for being one of the creative minds behind some of our world’s most recognizable superheroes. As the former top writer and publisher at Marvel Comics, Lee is widely considered a trailblazer in contemporary comic production. Later in Lee’s life, the creative artist’s face became recognizable from several iconic cameo appearances in movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lee passed away in 2018 at the age of 95.

Monthly sign drops feature signs for iconic New York City streets, commemorations of famous New Yorkers, celebrations of special occasions, and other custom releases. NYC DOT began its monthly drops in June, with the release of Christopher Street/Stonewall Place street signs to commemorate Pride Month. Last month, NYC DOT released ‘Christopher “Notorious B.I.G” Wallace Way’ street signs to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the rap legend’s landmark album Ready to Die. Signs in all drops this year sold out within hours of their release, ‘Nuff said.
