"Brooklyn Day": Commissioner Rodriguez to Meet With Local Leaders During All-day Visit to Brooklyn

As part of Commissioner in your Borough series, NYC DOT builds community partnerships, connects with local leaders, and highlights critical work

New York – New York City Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez today announced he will spend the day touring Brooklyn to gain further insight into the main transportation issues facing the borough. He is visiting nearly 5 locations across the borough to hear the greatest transportation concerns on the minds of each community, connecting with a variety of New Yorkers from faith leaders to delivery cyclists. Commissioner Rodriguez started the tour this morning by giving opening remarks at Vision Zero Safety Education Day, joined by NYPD staff and the Vision Zero street team.

“Equity is a key priority of this administration, and we are committed to delivering our projects fairly across the five boroughs to ensure all New Yorkers benefit from safe streets, fast buses, and welcoming public spaces,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez. “We are hosting ‘Commissioner in Your Borough’ events across the city to gain further insight into what transportation issues matter most to the residents, community leaders, clergy and elected officials in these communities.”

Commissioner Rodriguez will take part in Vision Zero Safety Education Day with NYPD. The event will highlight an education campaign at a busy intersection, focused on traffic and pedestrian safety.

The day continues as Commissioner Rodriguez will take Citi Bike down to Restoration Plaza on Fulton Street to join in a discussion to foster dialogue, share insights, and explore avenues of collaboration with community leaders, faith leaders, transportation experts, local organizations, and other stakeholders.

Next Commissioner Rodriguez will visit a recently completed school safety project on Eastern Parkway.

Commissioner Rodriguez plans to wrap up the day by speaking with delivery cyclists at Fulton Street and Nostrand Avenue. The event will focus on safety and education, including giveaways and NYC DOT’s helmet fitting program.

The day marks the fourth Commissioner in Your Borough event, following a “Queens Day” tour held in December, "Staten Island Day” held this February, and a “Manhattan Day” held in late May. Commissioner Rodriguez plans to undertake more borough-specific tours to discuss transportation needs in all five boroughs. Through 2022, Commissioner Rodriguez has joined roughly 30 New York City Council members for in-district tours or site visits.
