NYC DOT Announces Resurfacing and Repairs on Sections of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Between Atlantic Avenue and Tillary Street in Brooklyn

Repairs will involve one or more lane closures

During this project, motorists should anticipate delays in the vicinity of the work zones and should plan accordingly

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) announces a resurfacing project and base repairs on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Atlantic Avenue and Tillary Street in Brooklyn starting July 19th. After milling the road, NYC DOT crews will make repairs to the BQE’s concrete base, before completing the project with paving. These repairs will result in a smoother road surface, and are expected to take two weeks.

To facilitate the project, which goes from July 19th to July 31st, DOT will have eastbound and westbound early-morning lane closures, as well as full closures in the westbound direction, as follows:

From Tuesday, July 19th to Saturday, July 23rd, NYC DOT will have lane closures on the Queens-bound (eastbound) Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278) from Atlantic Avenue to Tillary Street:

  • One lane will close at 12:01 a.m. and a second lane will close at 1:00 a.m. At least one lane will remain open at all times.
  • All lanes will reopen by 5:00 a.m. The road surface will be rough between milling and paving.

During the week of July 24th, NYC DOT will have lane closures on the Staten Island–bound (westbound) Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278) from Tillary Street to Atlantic Avenue. The lane closures are as follow:

  • On Sunday, July 24th and Sunday, July 31st, the BQE will be FULLY CLOSED from Exit 29 to Exit 27 between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Traffic control agents and variable message signs will be in place. See map below for alternate routes to continue along the BQE or to access the Brooklyn Bridge during the full closures on Sunday, July 24th and Sunday, July 31st.
  • From Monday, July 25th to Saturday, July 30th one lane will close at 12:01 a.m. and a second lane will close at 1:00 a.m. At least one lane will remain open at all times
  • All lanes will reopen by 5:00 a.m. The road surface will be rough between milling and paving.

During this project, motorists should anticipate delays in the vicinity of the work zones, and should plan accordingly. All work is weather dependent.
