Increased Staten Island Ferry Service to Begin Thursday, July 28, 2005

The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) today announced the addition of three weekday Staten Island Ferry runs. Beginning July 28, 2005, half-hour ferry service will be available between 5am and 6am with the introduction of a 5:30am boat from the St. George ferry terminal in Staten Island. Between 7am and 8am a fourth boat will be added to provide service every fifteen minutes. Half-hour service will also be extended until 1:30am, Monday-Friday, with the addition of a new 1am boat from the Whitehall terminal in Manhattan.
Within 18 months DOT will further upgrade its weekend ferry service with the addition of half-hour service between 6am and 11am on Saturdays and half-hour service between 9am and 11am on Sundays. Currently half-hour service on Saturdays and Sunday's begins at 11am.
