East River Greenway Bike Detour | Spanish | Chinese
Starting on about the week of March 11, 2024, ongoing until further notice
To safely accommodate construction, cyclists should follow the new East River Greenway Detour between John Street and Market Street. For northbound travel, use the East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) detour at Pike St./Allen St. Please follow posted signage.
Water Main Upgrades on South St. from Rutgers Slip to Clinton St.
The week of February 12, 2024, for approximately 2 weeks.
To improve the water distribution system, the existing water mains will be replaced in sections along South Street. Official DEP notices with instructions will be provided before any service interruptions. For your safety, please follow on-site signage and flaggers
Detour of Bikers and Pedestrians on South St. from Pier 35 to Pier 36 | Spanish
Beginning November 6, 2023, ongoing until further notice
To safely accommodate gas main installation and flood wall construction, the enclosed work zone must be extended between Piers 35 and 36. Bikers should follow the existing East River Greenway Detour at Pike Slip or consider alternate routes. Pedestrians should use the available sidewalk on the north side of South St. To access Pier 35 and the waterfront pathway, cross at Rutgers Slip, Pike Slip, Market Slip, or Catherine Slip. Please follow all posted signage.
Extending Work Zone Under the FDR Drive | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning October 16, 2023, ongoing until further notice
Under the FDR Drive between Pier 35 and Pier 36, the contractor will extend the enclosed work zone. This will help to safely accommodate the construction and installation of the flood protection system. Piers 35, 36, and 42 will remain accessible throughout construction.
Start of Micropile Installaion Under the FDR Drive | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning July 31, 2023, ongoing until further notice
Under the FDR Drive between Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place and Pier 35, micropiles will be installed throughout the esplanade to provide support for the flip up gates, which are one part of the larger flood protection system being installed to protect the area
Water Main Upgrades on South Street | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning June 26, 2023, for approximately one (1) week.
To improve the water distribution system, the existing water mains will be replaced in sections along South Street. Official DEP notices with instructions will be provided before any service interruptions. For your safety please follow on site signage and flaggers.
East River Greenway / Bike - Pedestrian Path Shift: Catherine Slip to Pier 35 | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning June 19, 2023, ongoing until further notice
For the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, the contractor will adjust the alignment of the existing bike lane from South Street to the East River. There will be clearly marked exits approximately every block. Bikes must yield to pedestrians within the bike-pedestrian shared zone. Please follow all posted signs and striping.
Esplanade Closure: Market Slip to Pier 35 | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning June 19, 2023, ongoing until further notice
To safely accommodate the reconstruction of the East River Esplanade and installation of the various flood protection systems, the contractor will extend the enclosed work zone under the FDR Drive from Market Slip to Pier 35.
Restricted Parking on Robert F. Wagner Sr. Pl. Eastbound | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning June 5, 2023, ongoing until further notice
For the safety of pedestrians and the protection of vehicles during flood wall construction, parking will be restricted along Robert F. Wagner Sr. Pl. Eastbound and the FDR South On-Ramp between South. St. and Pearl St.
Test Pit Operations on South Street Near Pier 36 | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning April 19, 2023, for approximately two (2) months
To assess the underground conditions, the contractor will make a series of excavations in the roadway between Clinton St. and Rutgers Slip. There will be intermittent driveway closures and temporary traffic pattern changes in the bike lane.

Ongoing Traffic Pattern Changes on South Street from Brooklyn Bridge to Clinton Street | Spanish | Chinese
Beginning March 8, 2023. Ongoing until further notice
Due to test pit operations and exploratory work, construction crews will implement temporary traffic pattern changes, such as lane shifts, along South Street. Follow flagger’s directions. When work is complete at end of day, normal traffic patterns will be restored.
Parking limited on South Street from Market Slip to Pike Slip | Spanish | Chinese
