NeON Photography is a community initiative that offers both professional and creative opportunities in seven New York City neighborhoods: Brownsville, Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, Harlem, Jamaica, Northern Staten Island, and the South Bronx. The program provides in-person and online photography workshops citywide, introducing participants to the fundamentals and history of photography, technical skills, and the art of visual storytelling.
NeON Photography workshops are paid opportunities facilitated through the Neighborhood Opportunity Network (NeON), designed to prepare participants for careers as professional photographers. The training includes hands-on experience and skill-building in various aspects of photography. Graduates have gone on to work at prestigious events such as Carnegie Hall, New York Fashion Week, Park Avenue Pianos music salons, and tennis tournaments featuring legends like John McEnroe.

NeON Photography workshops are offered across all five boroughs and have recently expanded to include online sessions, ensuring accessibility for everyone. These workshops provide both job readiness training and a platform for artistic expression. Participants capture and share stories of their communities, with their photographs showcased in pop-up gallery exhibitions at the end of each course period.
NeON Photo graduates have had their work featured in several renowned galleries, including PowerHouse Arena, Hunter East Harlem Gallery, Denise Bibro Fine Art, and the Kente Royal Gallery of Harlem. Participants also maintain digital portfolios through the program, serving as a valuable professional resource for future opportunities.
Workshop sponsors include: Young Men’s Initiative, NYC Opportunity, Carnegie Hall, Park Avenue Pianos, and the NYC Department of Probation.
