The following services and activities are offered weekly. Due to COVID-19, some services and activities are held virtually, in-person, or both. Most classes are in English, but if language services are needed, contact the center at least 72 hours before the class. Click on any activity that interests you to learn more.

The Brownsville Neighborhood Health Action Center hosts a variety of programs and activities focused on the health and wellness of Brownsville residents. Our clinical partners also offer primary care services. The Action Center is part of the City's effort to promote health equity and reduce health disparities in the neighborhood.


Clinical Services

Health + Hospitals Brownsville Pediatric Clinic

  • NYC Health + Hospitals provides care to patients regardless of their insurance or immigration status, or ability to pay. The Brownsville Pediatric Clinic is currently only offering telehealth services, but children from newborn to 15 months can be seen in person for vaccinations. An appointment is recommended.

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Brownsville Multiservice Family Health Center at Bristol

  • The Brownsville Multiservice Family Health Center at Bristol provides primary care services to all of the community members it serves. An appointment is recommended.

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Brooklyn Perinatal Network Health Insurance Navigation

  • Brooklyn Perinatal Network Health Insurance Navigation helps families, individuals and people who are pregnant obtain health insurance coverage, such as Medicaid, Family Health Plus and Child Health Plus. It also assists clients with renewals in these programs. Brooklyn Perinatal Network Health Insurance Navigation is currently only offering virtual services. An appointment is recommended.

Weekly Services and Activities

Childbirth Education

This free, virtual, eight-week cycle of classes will teach pregnant and support people about the signs and stages of labor, breathing and relaxation, and breastfeeding.

Fatherhood Development

This free, virtual, 16-session class aims to promote personal and parental growth among fathers.

Crib and Car Seat Distribution

Families can get a car seat or safe sleep surface for their infant, if they need one.

  • Car seat requirement: Must be at least 27 weeks pregnant.
  • Safe sleep surface requirement: For infants 0 to 6 months.

ROSE (Reach Out, Stay Strong: Essentials)

This free, virtual workshop provides information and resources to people who are pregnant on how to lower the risk of postpartum depression.

Baby Café (Breastfeeding Support group)

This in-person, and virtual support group is for people who are breastfeeding. Trained professionals will provide practical breastfeeding support, such as help with latching and breast milk supply, and answer questions from participants. This month’s topics include:

  • November 3: The Stress of Breastfeeding in Public- Know your rights!
  • November 10: How great Breastfeeding can be
  • November 17: Ending Breastfeeding can be difficult

Virtual Family Foundations Information Session

This 30-minute session explains our nine-week cycle of virtual classes for parents in Brooklyn as they prepare for childbirth and then adjust to life with their newborn. Classes are suitable for couples and for parents who are not in a relationship with each other.

Car Seat Safety Training

Families can get a car seat for their infant if they need one. The Family Wellness Suite will be hosting in-person DOT Car Seat Safety Trainings.

  • Wednesdays, Haitian Creole Classes are the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (November 2 and 16).
  • Tuesdays, English Classes are the 2nd and last Tuesday of each month from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (November 8 and 22).

Groups and Committees

Remembering You, Remembering Us

This group is for parents, families and childbirth support people who have lost a pregnancy or a child due to pregnancy-related causes. This is a free virtual support group with occasional in-person gatherings.

Excellence Baby Academy

This virtual, nine-month program is for pregnant people and families with children younger than 18 months. Parents will learn how to make toys to support their children's learning and development, as well as parenting strategies and skills. Weekly groups promote healthy childhood development and prepare children for school.

Brownsville Resident Action Committee (B.R.A.C.)

The B.R.A.C. aims to increase community power by creating opportunities for residents to participate in advocacy and community leadership. Residents of all ages are invited to sign up and be active on the committee.

Community District (CD) 16 Health and Wellness Stakeholder Group

The CD 16 Health and Wellness Stakeholder Group works with the community to drive change by helping community members understand and tell “their” Brownsville story, and coordinating with residents and agencies to remove barriers and address social inequalities to improve the overall health of Brownsville.

Family Wellness Suite

A safe, welcoming and supportive space for women, caregivers and their families to connect to community resources and city agency services. We can refer you to services that will help you and your family avoid eviction, enroll in health insurance and find employment. The program provides services before, during and after pregnancy. Our services include childbirth education and newborn care classes, parenting classes, infant massage, reproductive health workshops, referrals and more.
