The following services and activities are offered virtually, in-person, or both. Most classes are in English, but if language services are needed, contact the center at least 72 hours before the class. Unless otherwise indicated, the location for all events and services is the Brownsville Neighborhood Health Action Center. Click on any activity that interests you to learn more.

The Brownsville Neighborhood Health Action Center hosts a variety of programs and activities focused on the health and wellness of Brownsville residents. Our clinical partners also offer primary care services. The Action Center is part of the City's effort to promote health equity and reduce health disparities in the neighborhood.


Clinical Services

BMS Dental at Bristol

  • The Brownsville Multiservice Family Health Center Dental clinic provides services to all the community members it serves.

  • Emergency walk-in only, 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Newborn Family Home Visiting Program

  • The is a free service for all birthing parents regardless of age or immigration status. New birthing parents can get support with infant feeding and connecting to resources.

Health + Hospitals Brownsville Pediatric Clinic

  • The Brownsville Pediatric Clinic is currently only offering telehealth services, but children from newborn to 15 months can be seen in person for vaccinations.

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Brownsville Multiservice Family Health Center at Bristol

  • The Brownsville Multiservice Family Health Center at Bristol provides primary care services to all of the community members it serves. An appointment is recommended.

Brooklyn Perinatal Network Health Insurance Navigation

  • Brooklyn Perinatal Network Health Insurance Navigation helps families, individuals and people who are pregnant obtain health insurance coverage, such as Medicaid, Family Health Plus and Child Health Plus. It also assists clients with renewals in these programs. Brooklyn Perinatal Network Health Insurance Navigation is currently only offering virtual services. An appointment is recommended.

A safe space for children newborn to 5 years old and their caregivers to meet friends, share the magic of reading, and enjoy fun activities.

Gardening Education

Discover the joys of gardening, learn new techniques, and connect with fellow gardening enthusiasts! Learn about plant spacing, composting, planting and propagation, weeding, mulching and much more.

ROSE (Reach Out, Stay Strong: Essentials)

This free, four-week virtual workshop provides information and resources to people who are pregnant on how to lower the risk of postpartum depression.

Naloxone Education

This training will teach you how to recognize and reverse an opioid overdose.

Cultivating Grace Support Group

An eight-session support group for birthing people, pregnancy through postpartum.

Before and After Birth: Protecting Your Emotional Health

Free program to learn how to manage stress, anxiety and the baby blues, before and after birth.

Weekly Services and Activities

Circle of Security Parenting Workshop

Supporting and strengthening safe parent-child relationships. For parents of children up to age 5.

Childbirth Education

This free, virtual, cycle of classes will teach pregnant and support people about the signs and stages of labor, breathing and relaxation, and breastfeeding. Classes taught in English are eight weeks long; classes taught in Spanish are five weeks long.

Fatherhood Development

This free, virtual, 16-session class aims to promote personal and parental growth among fathers.

Crib and Car Seat Distribution

Families can get a car seat or safe sleep surface for their infant if they need one.

  • Car seat requirement: Must be at least 27 weeks pregnant.
  • Safe sleep surface requirement: For infants 0 to 6 months.

Free Lactation Clinic

Appointment with a Certified Lactation Consultant to help prenatal and post-partum families achieve their breastfeeding goals.

Virtual Family Foundations Information Session

This 30-minute session explains our nine-week cycle of virtual classes for parents in Brooklyn as they prepare for childbirth and then adjust to life with their newborn. Classes are suitable for couples and for parents who are not in a relationship with each other.

Healing Pathways to Parenting

Healing Pathways to Parenting is a compassionate parenting class that will focus on psycho educational information as well as the emotional aspects of parenting a child.

Legal Hand Call-In Center of Brownsville

The Legal Hand Call-In Center of Brownsville serves residents in the 11212 and 11233 ZIP codes, and those referred by organizations associated with the Brownsville Neighborhood Health Action Center.

  • The Brownsville Neighborhood Health Action Center is open on Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Groups and Committees

Remembering You, Remembering Us

This group is for parents, families and childbirth support people who have lost a pregnancy or a child due to pregnancy-related causes. This is a free virtual support group with occasional in-person gatherings.

Family Wellness Suite

Family Wellness Suites are safe, welcoming, and supportive spaces for family members to receive services, health education, and connections to infant and maternal health community resources.
