The Bushwick Health Center coordinates and hosts a variety of programs and activities focused on the health and wellness of Bushwick residents. Our partners also offer both primary care and social services, such as assistance with WIC and SNAP.
Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Class
We offer a free diabetes self-management education support program in collaboration with local partners. Classes are two hours long and are offered on a weekly basis. Classes run five or six weeks. People who complete five classes receive a free glucose monitor while supplies last.

Diabetes and Nutrition 101
Diabetes and Nutrition 101 workshops are one-hour in-person workshops that provides an understanding of diabetes, including managing blood sugar, understanding insulin and medication, and managing diabetes through lifestyle choices.

Hypertension 101
Hypertension 101 is a two-hour workshop that provides an overview of hypertension: How to prevent and control it, as well as how to accurately measure and self-monitor blood pressure.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program
Learn how to manage symptoms of hypertension and develop action plans to eat healthy, manage stress, use medications appropriately, and incorporate fitness in this six-week workshop.
People who complete five classes will receive a free blood pressure monitor with health coaching support.

Community Mental Wellness and Resilience Workshop
Community Mental Wellness and Resilience Workshop is a three-hour workshop for New Yorkers on community empowerment and individual and collective resilience. Workshop participants will be trained to identify mental health issues, develop support strategies, and identify mental health resources within their communities.

GUIDE: Guiding Youth Through Intervention, Diversion, and Empowerment
This five-hour workshop provides participants with practical tools and strategies to manage crises, connect youth with essential support services, and strengthen mental health resilience. It also addresses the stigma surrounding mental health, offering guidance on creating supportive and inclusive environments for young people.
Naloxone Training
Naloxone trainings teach how to recognize and reverse an opioid overdose. Participants will become an opioid overdose responder and receive an overdose response kit with naloxone, a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose and restores breathing.

NYC Health + Hospitals provides high quality and affordable health care services to every member of your family. Primary care teams are specially trained to help you manage ongoing conditions, such as asthma, heart disease or diabetes, as well as access preventive care, such as annual check-ups and immunizations. Confidential sexual and reproductive care for adolescents 13 to 21 years old are also provided.
Public Health Solutions provides educational sessions led by WIC nutritionists on healthy eating and physical activity, breastfeeding support, and the use of eWIC cards to purchase nutritious foods. Referrals to other services can be provided, including SNAP, health insurance, medical and dental providers and childcare.
Health insurance counselors can explain your health insurance and care options, regardless of your immigration status, help you and your family enroll in or renew health insurance, find out if you qualify for financial help to pay for a low-cost private health insurance plan, and assist with applying for SNAP benefits.
