Squad 4 oversees an array of City agencies that include the City’s Department of Finance (DOF), the City's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), the Economic Development Corporation (EDC), the City Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP), the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), and the City’s Employee Retirement System (NYCERS), among others. Squad 4’s investigations have resulted in arrests of individuals and City employees who embezzle funds and individuals who bribe City inspectors or exam proctors and have led to charges against an Associate Retirement Benefits Examiner at NYCERS for allegedly stealing approximately $624,000 in pension checks from two retired individuals; the guilty plea of a former DOF employee who falsely represented himself to illegally obtain City real estate tax refunds; the arrest of day care workers on charges of providing fraudulent medical forms required by DOHMH; the guilty pleas of two principals of a City vendor who defrauded the City of millions of dollars; the guilty plea of a licensed pedicab driver for bribing a DCWP employee to obtain authentic pedicab registration plates, and the return of $400,000 to underpaid City school security guards from a company that withheld wages from workers in an investigation with the state Attorney General.
