TLC is committed to providing greater access and options for the accessibility community. TLC’s Accessibility Initiatives include financial incentives for owners and drivers of accessible taxicabs, the new Accessible E-Hail model for passengers, information on the Taxi Improvement Fund, and accessibility requirements for the FHV sector.

The accessibility ecosystem for taxi is expanding. In response to the growth within this sector, and technological advancement, TLC is moving to a new Accessible E-Hail model!

Are drivers trained?

Please visit the Driver Education - TLC to learn more about the type of instruction that drivers receive.

What can I expect the driver to assist me with?

  • The driver will assist the passenger into the vehicle.
  • The driver will secure the passenger when in vehicle.
  • The driver will support the passenger in exiting the vehicle once the destination has been reached.

Can I E-Hail an accessible ride?

  • Yes. Please review above the section titled Accessible E-Hail.

Do I have to prearrange my ride?

  • A ride does not have to be prearranged.
  • If the passenger would like to prearrange a ride this is possible, as well as e-hailing at the time of need.
