Nightlife Best Practices

The Best Practices for Nightlife Establishments handbook was created by the Police Department in conjunction with the New York City Hospitality Alliance. It was designed to assist the nightlife industry in maintaining establishments which are safe and free from illegal activity, including drug sales, underage drinking, overconsumption of alcohol, violence, prostitution, assaults, and sex offenses, and what nightlife professionals should know about counterterrorism threats and preparedness.

The third edition, published in March, 2018, is now available in both English and Spanish.

McGruff the Crime Dog is used at community events, school presentations, and youth events as part of the National Crime Prevention Council. The character hugs and poses with children, accompanying police presentations that reinforce awareness on the negative effects of bullying, drug use, and criminal behavior.
