Fedcap provides individuals an opportunity to meet 1:1 with a Transition Coordinator to discuss their unique reentry needs, including housing, employment and public benefits. The Transition Coordinator works with the individual to complete a Transition Plan and connect them to services in the Community. Fedcap serves individuals in NIC, RNDC and OBCC. Fortune Society
Fortune provides individuals an opportunity to meet 1:1 with a Transition Coordinator to discuss their unique reentry needs, including housing, employment and public benefits. The Transition Coordinator works with the individual to complete a Transition Plan and connect them to services in the Community. In addition, Fortune Society staff from its employment, supervised release, and alternative to incarceration units visit EMTC on a bi-weekly basis to provide information and referrals to these services. Destination Tomorrow
Destination Tomorrow, the LGBTQ center of the Bronx, recently launched their G.P.S. program onto Riker’s Island. The G.P.S. program provides resources and educational courses to at risk LGBTQ+ members in our community to learn and improve their professional development, financial literacy and social emotional competency-based life skills. G.P.S stands for growth, prosperity, and sustainability as these are all the ways we aim to serve our community and navigate all students towards success. Click here for more information.
Clothing Boutiques
This program provides individuals the ability to earn Boutique Bucks at a clothing boutique. With Boutique Bucks participant "shoppers" are able to select professional attire such as suits, shirts, blouses, skirts, pants and more. Elder Reentry Initiative (ERI)
The Osborne Association provides individuals who are 55+ with interactive journaling and reentry resources that are targeted to their unique needs. Offered in NIC. Click here for more information.
Getting Out Staying Out (GOSO)
Mentoring program for young men incarcerated or formerly incarcerated. Its goal is to reduce recidivism by engaging them in ways to think about their reentry prior to their release from jail or prison. Upon release, it engages them in the community, with individual counseling and case management, work readiness training, housing referrals, employment referrals, educational referrals and seminars focused on life skills, communication skills, fatherhood, financial literacy, reproductive health, and entrepreneurship. This program offers female empowerment and group mentoring sessions to young adults. Offered in RMSC. Click here for more information.
HomeBase - Palladia
This program can provide housing assistance that includes eviction prevention, financial help to address rent arrears, and paying for the storage of your belongings while you are incarcerated. Offered in GRVC, RMSC and EMTC. Click here for more information.
Human Resources Administration Child Support Services
Support for fathers in custody who are seeking information regarding child support status and amount. Advocate provides assistance with child support reduction for those who meet criteria. Individuals also receive resources on HRA benefits they may be eligible to obtain upon release. Offered in NIC. Click here for more information.
New York University
Provides workshops on financial literacy, debt management and credit repair. Volunteer also provides workshops on entrepreneurship. Offered in NIC. Click here for more information.
Reentry With SCO Family of Services
This program provides pre-and post-release work readiness and supportive services to young adults (18-21) in DOC custody. These services include but are not limited to soft skill workshops, parenting, case management as well as group and individual services. Upon completing a class, participants are eligible to receive a certificate. Offered in RNDC. Click here for more information.
Steps to End Family Violence
This is a reentry program for individuals with Domestic Violence / Intimate Partner Violence charges. This program provides women with job training, housing assistance, financial counseling, clinical and legal services, advocacy, case management, and other comprehensive services upon release. The Doe Fund
The Doe Fund is one of the largest nonprofits in NYC providing housing and employment to homeless individuals. The Doe Fund visits sentenced individuals and detainees in EMTC on a bi-weekly basis to let them know about the organizations and encourage individuals with upcoming release dates to sign up for the program. ThreeSixty Program
The THREESIXTY program provides mentorship, coaching, and reentry tools to young men ages 18–21 years old. Regular interactions and meetings focus on life-building skills that support wellbeing during their time incarcerated and prepare participants for re-entry into the community. Offered in RNDC. Women's Criminal Justice Association
WCJA advocates visit RMSC on a bi-weekly basis to provide overall support to the individuals in RMSC and refer them to services based on their unique needs. Offered in RMSC. Click here for more information.
Veteran Services
The department partners with the Veterans Administration, NYC Department of Veteran Services and other organizations to assist the Veterans in our care with benefits, discharge planning, housing, and other forms of support.
Community Justice Reentry Network
The Department partners with the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice to connect incarcerated individuals with a network of contracted service providers. These providers have a presence within our facilities, enabling incarcerated individuals to engage with them for discharge planning and learn about community-based services. Specifically, individuals can work with providers to develop personalized transition plans, establish connections with community-based services, and receive assistance with housing. You can support your loved ones in making a successful return home, by encouraging them to take advantage of the services offered by our community-based providers. The Fortune Society and Fedcap
The Department partners with The Fortune Society and Fedcap to deliver comprehensive, wraparound reentry programming for individuals in our care. Services include individualized discharge planning, with dedicated support to secure housing, employment, and public benefits, as well as referrals to community-based resources and services. Participants engage in structured group programming and earn certificates in areas such as job readiness, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, résumé development, and related skills. In addition, Fedcap provides transportation on the day of release, ensuring a direct and seamless connection to a community-based service provider upon discharge.
IDNYC
IDNYC is New York City’s official municipal identification card. It is a free, safe, and widely accepted government-issued identification card for use in New York City. The card also provides many benefits and discounts across the city. To apply, you will need four points from documents providing identity and NYC residency, and the list of acceptable documents includes ID information and photos already used by DOC. If you or your loved one were released from DOC custody within five (5) years of submitting your application, IDNYC can confirm this information at an IDNYC Enrollment center, and it will count as one point of identification and your photo ID.
