Civic Engagement


        Voter Registration

The Department partners with volunteers and external organizations to register voters and promote participation in democracy. The Senior Program Liaison (SPL) works closely with the Voting on Rikers Coalition, the Legal Aid Society, the New York City Campaign Finance Board, Queens Public Library, Correctional Health Services, the NYC Board of Elections, and DOC program staff to assist individuals in registering to vote and completing absentee ballots. 
Additionally, the Department facilitates a voter education curriculum designed to inform individuals about their voting rights and the election process, promoting civic engagement and informed participation. Offered in all facilities.
