NYC Aging health insurance support
Health insurance experts answer questions about Medicare.

The Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP), offers free information, confidential counseling, and assistance signing up for health care coverage and solving medical coverage problems.

HIICAP is available for Medicare beneficiaries and their families regarding:

  • Medicare Part A and Part B plans
  • Part D -Drug Coverage
  • Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)
  • Supplemental coverage, also known as Medigap
  • Available cost saving programs such as:
    • EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage)- to help reduce medication costs
    • Medicare Savings Program- to pay Medicare premiums and other costs
    • Extra Help- which can reduce Part D premium and lower costs on prescription drugs
  • Other health and long-term care insurance

New York City residents that are not eligible for Medicare or do not have health insurance, may be able to access NYC Care program through NYC Health + Hospitals which provide low or no-cost primary health care regardless of age or citizenship status. For more information, click here or at 311.
