Volunteers in Detention
The
New York City Department of Juvenile Justice works with
a number of individuals who are interested in volunteering
their time to work with youth in detention. Volunteers
serve as positive role models for youth in detention while
helping them to learn valuable life skills. In 1999, the
program was recognized as the most outstanding volunteer
program in city government by the Mayor and the Mayor’s
Voluntary Action Center Task Force on Volunteerism in
Government. Individuals interested in volunteering should
write or email the Director Program Services at (212) 442-7268 / email – nycdjj@djj.nyc.gov.
