If you are an inmate's attorney, physician/clinician or clergyperson, you can request that calls from inmates to the number(s) you designate will not be recorded. You must submit the request on letterhead; it can be submitted to the Department as described below.
In order for a telephone number to be placed on the Do Not Record list, it must be a 10-digit number consisting of a valid U.S. area code, exchange and 4 digits.

Please be advised that requests to be placed on the Do Not Record list may take up to 10 business days once approved. At the beginning of any phone call which is not private, you will hear the following admonishment: “This call is not private. It will be recorded and may be monitored for law enforcement purposes. If you are an attorney please hang up and follow facility instructions to register this number as a private number by going to www.nyc.gov/doc.”

If you have an endorsement from the relevant religious authority and a pastoral relationship with an inmate, and you want to have your phone number(s) placed on the Do Not Record List, submit your request on letterhead with the following information:
