Urology

Urological problems occur at all ages.Currently, more children are diagnosed at an early stage with such problems because of the increasing use of sonograms during pregnancy. The urologists at Coney Island Hospital are equipped to deal with the entire spectrum of pediatric urological diseases — whether in a newborn or an older child, emergency or elective. Some of the problems we take care of include:

  • Hydronephrosis from various causes, such as obstructed urine flow
  • Vesicoureteral reflux, abnormal flow of urine from the bladder back toward the kidneys
  • Undescended testes
  • Varicocele, swollen veins in the scrotum
  • Hypospadias, a congenital condition in which the opening of the penis is not in the normal location
  • Epispadias, the opening of the penis appears on the top or side, not at the tip
  • Extrophy, a congenital problem affecting the bladder
  • Urinary tract infections and urinary incontinence

Surgery for all pediatric urological tumors can be performed at our facility. We also provide comprehensive treatment for most diseases from complex problems, like ambiguous genitalia, to routine pediatric emergencies like testicular torsion.
