The Administration for Children’s Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Youth Development Specialist to serve within the Division of Youth & Family Justice. Position Overview & Candidate Requirements

  • Role Summary: Youth Development Specialists provide 24/7 care, safety, and direct supervision for youth in custodial settings, facilitating daily schedules, behavior management, and crisis intervention. 
  • Salary: The starting salary for this position is $55,075.00. 
  • Minimum Education: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent. 
  • Experience Required: One year of full-time experience working with youth/young adults (ages 10–24) in in a group setting within the following areas will be acceptable: Community, educational, or institutional setting or program performing recreational, detention, vocational, peer mentoring, or anti-violence work; or youth leadership development, young adult leadership development, health promotion, community organizing, internships, volunteer work, mentorship, athletic programs or similar experience.  
  • Substitutions: An Associate or Bachelor's degree can substitute for some or all required work experience. (Academic coursework in social work, counseling, education, recreation, criminal justice, psychology, biology, sociology, human services, or a closely related field may be substituted for experience at the rate of 12 semester credits from an accredited college or university for 6 months of experience)
  • Clearances: Ability to pass a mandatory criminal background check, child abuse clearance, and drug & medical screening. 
  • Residency Policy: NYC residency is not required for this title. This position is fully exempt from the standard New York City residency requirements, opening the opportunity to qualified candidates living outside the five boroughs. 
  • Civil Service Requirements: Candidates must file for, take, and pass the next official DCAS Civil Service Exam for this title to secure permanent city employment status.
