The Administration for Children’s Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Special Officer to serve within the ACS Police & Security Unit. Only candidates chosen for an interview will be contacted with further information, including the interview location. 

Position Overview & Candidate Requirements

• Role Summary: Special Officers provide safety and security across ACS buildings and juvenile justice facilities. Key responsibilities include maintaining orderly environments, controlling site access points, screening visitors, monitoring security feeds, and responding directly to physical or safety incidents. 
• Salary Range: The starting salary for this position is $40,480.00 
• Minimum Education: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state department of education. (College credits or a degree in Criminal Justice or Security Management or closely related field preferred). 
• Age Requirements: Must be at least 20 years old at the time of appointment. 
• Peace Officer Training Certification Requirement: You must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officers. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of your employment. Attendance at annual recertification training is mandatory and a continuing condition of employment. 
• Citizenship Requirement: Pursuant to New York State Public Officers Law, United States citizenship is required at the time of appointment. 
• Clearances: Ability to pass a rigorous background check, fingerprinting, drug screening, and psychological and physical fitness evaluations. 
• Residency Policy: Pursuant to New York State Public Officers Law, you must be a resident of the City of New York at the time of appointment, and you must thereafter maintain City residency as a continuing condition of employment. New hires are generally required to meet this residency standard within 90 days of their official appointment date. However, if you have two years of employment with the City of New York, you may be a resident of Nassau, Westchester, Suffolk, Orange, Rockland or Putnam counties. 
• Civil Service Requirements: Candidates must file for, take, and pass the next official DCAS Civil Service Exam for this title to secure permanent city employment status.
