The Administration for Children’s Services is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Congregate Care Specialist to serve at the Nicholas Scoppetta Children's Center. - Role Summary: Congregate Care Specialists oversee the care, well-being, and guidance of youth placed in residential settings or the Children's Center. Daily duties include supervising youth, chaperoning appointments, conducting facility inspections, and managing crisis interventions.
- Salary: The starting salary for this position is $49,657.00
- Minimum Education: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent. (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related human services field preferred).
- Experience Required: Two years of full-time experience working with juveniles or young adults (ages 7-18) in a congregate residential setting or non-secure detention facility.
- Acceptable Settings: Work must take place directly with children or youths in an overnight or group residential environment. This includes Group Homes; Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs); Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTFs); Emergency Shelters; Juvenile Detention and Correctional Facilities; Dormitories and Supervised Independent Living
- Substitutions: Candidates can bypass the work experience requirement entirely if they hold an Associate degree or 60 college credits (with at least 12 credits in psychology, sociology, social work, human services, criminal justice, education, nursing, or cultural anthropology).
- Clearances: Ability to pass a mandatory criminal background check, child abuse clearance, finger printing, and drug & medical screening.
- Residency Policy: Under New York City Administrative Code Section 12-120, employees must live in New York City when appointed and maintain city residency during their employment. New hires have 90 days from their start date to move into the city. After two consecutive years of NYC government service, employees may live in Nassau, Westchester, Suffolk, Orange, Rockland, or Putnam counties.
- Civil Service Requirements: Candidates must file for, take, and pass the next official DCAS Civil Service Exam for this title to secure permanent city employment status.
