New York Mets Military Transition Summit

The New York City Department of Veterans' Services now offers a Transition Assistance Program for recently separated service members and any Veteran interested in calling the Big Apple their home. This information session will serve as an introduction to our agency and highlight how we can serve as a resource for you and your loved ones during your transition and beyond. The information you receive during this session will help you take advantage of the benefits you earned while in uniform as well as get you acclimated to life in New York City.

This is not your “run-of-the-mill” Transition Assistance Program—this is Big Apple TAP—designed for the select few who are interested in settling down in New York City. At your last duty station, you were told about a suite of programs and services at the federal and state level as a part of your out-processing, but what about at the city level? Lucky for you, New York City has an agency dedicated to providing you and your family with information about the many programs and services unique to the Big Apple. Whether you plan to stay for a few years or a lifetime, we can help ease your landing!

We host FREE virtual and in-person sessions throughout the year where you will hear from top leaders in the New York City Veteran community who understand firsthand how to navigate this transition and what it means to live, learn, and work in this great city.

No two information sessions will be exactly alike, but below is a general overview:

Employment

  • Whether you want to continue your career as a public servant or enter the private sector and start climbing the corporate ladder we can help you effectively translate your military experience so civilian employers know just how valuable of an asset you would be to their team.

Education

  • If you are interested in pursuing you education, we can help you navigate the many colleges, universities and vocational programs while making sure you get the most out of your Gl Bill to further your education and job training.

Finances

  • While attaining financial security after separating from the military can be challenging, we are here to help understand and receive the financial benefits you’re entitled to such as VA disability claims, unemployment insurance and SNAP.

Healthcare & Wellness

  • Enrolling in health insurance can be confusing and hard to navigate, we can help you register for health benefits at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System and the VA Bronx Healthcare System. Additionally, our team can connect veterans to services that can help them manage health and wellness challenges.

The transition to civilian life can be difficult, but our hope is that you will walk away from this session with a new set of tools to make navigating this life change a little easier.
