The New York City Department of Veterans' Services (DVS) formed the VA Claims Unit to assist veterans and their families with Veterans Affairs (VA) claims in order to help more of the city's 210,000 veterans receive the federal benefits that they earned.

In 2020, the New York State Division of Veterans' Services trained and accredited members of DVS's Community Services team to process claims and assist NYC Veterans and their families who are in need of claim advisement.
