Pay Penalty by Mail

You may wish to pay the penalty for the summons if:

  • You are not able or do not want to participate in a hearing; or
  • The OATH Hearing Officer rules that you were in violation of the charges cited by the enforcement agency on your Summons.

Payments by mail should be received by the City ten (10) days before the scheduled hearing to avoid a default decision in your case. The payment method is determined by the type of summons you received. In order to pay the penalty you will need the number from your summons.

Restaurant, Day Care Center, Lead Paint, X-Ray Cases

Mail a check or money order for the full amount of the fine. Do not send cash. You must write your summons number on the front of the check, and make the check out to:

Vehicle for Hire Cases

All payments must be made to TLC directly and TLC does not accept payments by mail. You can pay your summons online through the TLC website.

Consumer Cases

All payments must be made to DCWP directly. Mail a check or money order for the full amount owed. Do not send cash and do not include any other documents with your payment. You must write your summons number on the front of the check or money order and make it payable to: NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection.
