Counseling
- New York City Crime Victims' Hotline can refer you to agencies that provide individual counseling (vicserv_glossary) and supportive therapy (vicserv_glossary). For assistance, call 1-866-689-HELP (4357).
- Safe Horizon Counseling Center provides counseling services to victims of crime. The Counseling Center accepts Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and most private insurances. If you do not have health insurance, the Counseling Center has a sliding fee scale based on income. Learn more about the Safe Horizon Counseling Center or call 1-347-328-8110.
- The NYC Family Justice Centers (FJC) offer free counseling to victims of domestic violence, elder abuse, and sex trafficking.
- The NYC Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence provides a resource directory that can connect you to various non-profit organizations and centers for victims of domestic violence and, in some cases, of other crimes.

- Victims of sexual assault can receive help by trained doctors and nurses at Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) programs in New York City hospitals. SAFE programs provide sensitive care, evidence-collection, medical treatment, and crisis and counseling referral
If you do not have health insurance or have concerns about using your insurance, the New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS) may reimburse the hospital for emergency room expenses related to the crime, including the forensic-exam-related services.
