Your IDNYC card is a broadly accepted, official form of identification. IDNYC is accepted:

  • By City agencies to access many services and programs;
  • By NYPD for the purposes of issuing summons or desk appearance tickets instead of arrest;
  • For entry into public buildings, like schools;
  • For taking the high school equivalency exam in New York City;
  • By employers, when submitted with proof of work authorization.

Your IDNYC card also offers a wide variety of exciting benefits that make it more than just an ID card. Your card can help you experience everything New York has to offer.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information about these benefits or if you have any questions about accessing them, please contact the organizations listed below. Acceptance of Expired Cards

To minimize consequences for people who are unable to renew their cards during the pandemic and to ensure that New Yorkers continue to enjoy the peace of mind of having a government-issued ID, until further notice the NYPD will consider cards that expired on or after March 12, 2020, as a valid form of identification.

Many IDNYC benefit partners will also honor cards that expired after March 12, 2020. Cardholders are encouraged to contact individual benefit partners as hours of operation and acceptance of IDNYC to access benefits may have temporarily changed.

However, the following benefit partners and financial institutions have told IDNYC that, until further notice, they will continue to accept cards that expired on or after March 12, 2020, on the same terms as unexpired cards:

  • BigAppleRx pharmacy discount
  • Entertainment Benefits Group discounts/deals
  • Food Bazaar
  • Zipcar
