Housing

IDNYC is the only ID card you need for affordable housing through NYC Housing Connect.

Housing Connect is your portal to find and apply for affordable housing created by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC). It includes rental and homeownership opportunities. Rentals are regulated so the rent can’t go up too much over time, and condos, coops, and 1-4 family homes have restricted prices.

With IDNYC, you don't need a driver’s license, social security card or birth certificate to be eligible for housing on Housing Connect. All New Yorkers above the age of 18 can sign up for Housing Connect! Your immigration status does not matter.

Don’t forget: you will need to show confirmation of your household income to qualify for affordable housing (e.g. pay stubs or other records of income). Also, you may need to provide a copy of a birth certificate or other forms of documentation like a school letter for minors under the age of 18 in your household. All New York City residents ages 10 and up, regardless of immigration status, can apply for an IDNYC and access the many other benefits of having the card.
