How to Get Involved

The New Utrecht Community Visioning Report  summarizes the results of the community engagement process conducted from June 2025-March 2026. The report is attached to the New Utrecht Library and Affordable Housing RFP as an appendix, and development teams responding to the RFP are strongly encouraged to consult the report and thoughtfully respond in their proposal.

After the development team for this project is selected, HPD, BPL and the development team will continue to provide regular updates to New Utrecht Library patrons, Brooklyn Community Board 11, and other community stakeholders.

Our Approach to Community Engagement

No one understands neighborhood conditions and needs better than people who live and work in the community. HPD and BPL value this expertise, which is why community engagement is central to the development process. The goal of this outreach is to identify priorities for the new library and affordable housing that will be built on this site.

The community engagement phase will end with the publishing of a Community Visioning Report (CVR) that summarizes the feedback we hear. The CVR and any public presentations or other engagement materials will be linked on this webpage.

The CVR will be attached to the New Utrecht Library and Affordable Housing Request for Proposals (RFP), and HPD and BPL will evaluate how development teams thoughtfully respond to the CVR in their proposals. More information about the RFP process can be found in the RFP Process and FAQs tab.
