Donations
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is truly grateful to the many individuals, groups, and nonprofit and corporate partners who contribute in our agency's efforts at preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City.
Whether you or your organization is interested in volunteering for the DHS annual HOPE Survey, where New Yorkers help identify those in need of shelter-or partnering with us on the more than 300 events per year that DHS organizes for families and individuals in shelter, please feel free to peruse the wide variety of opportunities to help the homeless.
Support the Homeless Trust Fund
A donation to the Homeless Trust Fund helps improve the quality of life for thousands of families currently experiencing homelessness. Your donations go directly to shelters, which use the funds to buy clothing, gifts, board games, and sports equipment. The fund also helps the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) sponsor special events, such as trips to amusement parks, the circus, and baseball games. Donations may be earmarked for specific shelters.
For donations to the Homeless Trust Fund, please make checks payable to the NYC Department of Homeless Services.

Barbara S. Kleiman Fund
Barbara S. Kleiman, a former Assistant Commissioner at DHS, devoted her life to helping homeless New Yorkers. The Barbara S. Kleiman Scholarship Fund was established to offer college or vocational scholarships to those who have overcome long histories of addiction and homelessness. Run by the nonprofit Community Mediation Services, the fund also presents an annual service award that honors exceptional counselors and case workers. The fund accepts donations.

Furniture Donation Programs
Do you have gently used furniture or other household items that you no longer use? Several programs collect these items and provide them to clients moving out of shelter and into their own apartments. If you are interested in making such a donation, please contact The Salvation Army or Housing Works.
