People who are older, frail, have mobility issues, or are isolated are especially vulnerable during emergencies. The Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) works with New York City Emergency Management and other City agencies to better prepare older New Yorkers.
To better prepare older adults in the community, NYC Aging also:
- Gives preparedness presentations at older adult centers, naturally occurring retirement communities (NORCs), churches, and other organizations
- Requires emergency plans from older adult centers, NORCs, and home-delivered meal and home care providers in NYC Aging's network
- Contributes to the City's planning for and response to emergency situations
