In Your Community

DDC builds and upgrades public infrastructure around the city. Our work includes water mains, sewers, pedestrian ramps, public plazas, and more.

Community Construction Liaisons work on behalf of DDC to inform neighbors of construction activities and quickly resolve any project-related impacts.

For project inquiries and concerns, please reach out to the project contact, usually a Community Construction Liaison (CCL).

Brochure: Introduction to DDC Infrastructure Projects

Community Impacts

DDC is committed to maintaining a project work site that is safe and orderly. However, dust, noise, and heavy equipment are common elements of construction, and we ask for your patience during the project.

People with Disabilities

We will work with individuals that have special requests or are uniquely impacted by the project, including people with disabilities. Please reach out to the project contact or CCL.

Dust Control

The contractor will maintain dust control measures by using or spraying water periodically or as needed, to minimize dust that may be produced from the work site.

Service Delivery Coordination

We will coordinate with related agencies and the community during the project to minimize inconveniences, including any changes to trash collection locations.

Rodent & Water Bug Control

Baits are placed within the construction zone for rodent control, and a specialist will perform a survey prior to construction. A professional specialist will install rodent and water bug control stations.

Noise Code Regulations

Certain operations produce noise. However, we will monitor construction operations and work within the City regulations.

Property Damage

You are advised to contact the DDC and/or the General Contractor (GC), of any property damage that may have occurred as a result of the construction work. If the GC fails to respond within 10 days, you should inform the DDC Construction Director, in writing. If you intend to file a claim, you must do so within 90 days of occurrence with the NYC Comptroller’s Office.

Temporary Water Shutdowns

During the project there may be temporary water shutdowns to allow for water main replacement or repairs. Advance notice will be given for all planned shutdowns. Water service will be restored at the end of the day.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic Regulations during construction are coordinated with the NYC Department of Transportation. Emergency vehicle access and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Merchant deliveries will be coordinated and allowed. Lane closures and other adjustments may be required, but signs will be posted in advance. Parking of private vehicles on the street within the construction work area is restricted. The contractor will comply with regulations that limit work on certain holidays.
