How to Correct Violations

Before you apply to host a short-term rental in New York City, make sure that your unit does not have uncorrected violations. There are certain violations that must be corrected before a registration can be granted. They are described in section 21-08(2) of the Short-Term Registration Rules. Correcting all violations can help you avoid delays in approval or denial of your application.  

Here’s how: 

  1. Look up your address in the NYC Department of Buildings Building Information System database and check for any uncorrected violations, Vacate Orders, or Stop Work Orders. If applicable, follow the instructions to correct them. 
  2. Look up your building in the database at HPD Online and check for any open violations. If applicable, follow the instructions to correct violations. 
  3. Go to the FDNY site for information on looking up and correcting violations. Follow the instructions to look up and resolve any violations.
