Vehicle Booting

Before visiting a business center regarding a booted or towed vehicle, please be aware of the following:

To remove a boot from your vehicle, please visit www.nycbootpay.com to pay by credit or debit card, or call Republic Immobilization Services at (646) 517-1000 to pay by credit or debit card or bank account withdrawal. Please note that if you call, you may experience a long hold time. Republic Information Services is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
If you recently enrolled in a payment plan with Republic Immobilization Services, your vehicle is not at risk of being booted or towed. You will receive more information from the Department of Finance soon.
If your vehicle has not been booted, but you owe judgment violations and would like to enter into a payment plan, you can request a payment plan online.

Unless you have a vehicle that has been booted or towed, please schedule an appointment before visiting a DOF business center. You can also conduct many Department of Finance transactions online.

Removing the Boot from Your Vehicle

If your vehicle is booted, please make a payment for all outstanding judgment debt, plus the additional fees listed below, using one of the following options:
- Online: Visit www.nycbootpay.com to pay by credit or debit card.
- Telephone: Call (646) 517-1000 to pay with a debit/credit card or bank account withdrawal.
- In-Person: Cash payments are accepted in person at any Department of Finance business center.
You will receive a release code immediately after paying your judgment debt in full.
When you enter the code, the boot will unlock and you can remove it.
Return the boot to a return location within 24 hours to avoid a late fee of $25 per day.

Important Information for Boot Removal

Fees

For vehicles booted on or before October 31, 2019 there will be a $159 fee for the boot. For vehicles booted on or after November 1, 2019, there will be a $136 fee for the boot. There is also a $80 Sheriff’s execution fee as well as a poundage fee (5% of all fines including penalties and interest). If you do not pay the parking ticket or camera violation judgment debt and related fees within two business days of being booted, then your vehicle may be towed. The total amount that you must pay to get your vehicle back can be calculated using the chart below.

If you need a hearing to contest one or more of the outstanding parking tickets, you must ask for one at a Finance Business Center. You cannot have a hearing on tickets in judgment more than one year.

Under certain circumstances, your vehicle may also be towed immediately after it is booted.
