Pedestrian Detour at Montgomery Street & South Street
Beginning week of July 7, 2025
Flood protection work being performed under the Brooklyn Bridge-Montgomery Coastal Resilience (BMCR) project requires a temporary pedestrian detour on Montgomery Street, between South Street and Water Street. Please follow all on-site pavement markings, signs and flaggers to ensure safety.

Nightwork: Removal of the E. 10th Street Bridge | Chinese
Beginning Sunday, July 13, 2025 at 12:01 am
Ongoing for 2-3 months
Activities related to the removal of the E. 10th Street Bridge will necessitate overnight work. This operation can be disruptive and loud. Because this work includes full and partial FDR Drive closures, we are required to perform it at night to minimize traffic disruptions. Noise, vibration, and air quality monitors are in place. We apologize for the disturbance and thank you for your patience as we make these critical upgrades. Separate advisories detailing the pedestrian and FDR Drive detours are available on the ESCR website.

Nightwork: Utility Crossings in the Vicinity of E. 10th Street and FDR Drive | Chinese
Beginning Wednesday, June 18th, 2025
Ongoing for about six weeks
Overnight work hours are required for utility construction across the FDR Drive, beginning at E. 10th Street and ending in East River Park. Partial FDR Drive and FDR Drive Service Road closures will be in effect during this time. Please follow detours and all on-site signage to ensure safety. This activity can be disruptive and loud. Noise, vibration, and air quality monitors are in place.

Nightwork: Removal of the E. 10th Street Bridge Requiring Full FDR Drive Closure from E. 25th Street to E. Houston Street | Chinese  
Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 12:01am to 10:00am
The full closure of the FDR Drive will be in effect north- and southbound between Exit 5 (Houston Street, Williamsburg Bridge) and Exit 7 (East 20th - East 33rd Street NB, East 23rd Street SB). Vehicles should follow all posted signs and Traffic Enforcement Agents while detour is in effect.

Beginning the week of June 30th, 2025
Ongoing for about six weeks
Overnight work hours will be required for electrical conduit construction across the FDR Drive, beginning at E. 6th Street and ending in East River Park. Partial FDR Drive and FDR Drive Service Road closures will be in effect during this time. Please follow detours and all on-site signage to ensure safety. This activity can be disruptive and loud. Noise & air quality monitors are in place.

Closure of East River Park Ballfield 6 | Chinese
Beginning July 1, 2025
Phase 2 construction will require the closure of Ballfield 6. Refer to map below for access points. Please follow onsite signage. Noise and air monitors are in place.
Future closures include the Track & Field area, E. Houston Street entry, and E. 6th Street bridge on or about September 2, 2025. Advisory to follow.

Closure of South Street between Gouverneur Slip West and Montgomery Street | Chinese
Beginning the week of July 14, 2025
Ongoing for approximately one week
7:00am to 5:00pm
A closure of South Street between Gouverneur Slip West & Montgomery Street will be required for the installation of a rolling floodgate. FDR Southbound Exit 3 will remain open, but traffic will follow the detour below. Please follow all posted signs, Traffic Enforcement Agents, and flaggers while this closure is in effect. Noise and air monitors are in place.

Sidewalk Closure & Pedestrian Detour: E.10th Street at FDR Drive Service Road
Beginning Wednesday, June 18th, 2025
Ongoing for 2-3 months
Activities related to the removal of the E. 10th Street Bridge will require the closure of sidewalks on the north side of E. 10th Street, between the traffic circle and FDR Drive Service Road. Building access will be maintained at all times. For your safety, please follow all posted signs and flaggers.

East River Greenway Closure & Detour Between Montgomery Street & Stuyvesant Cove Park | Chinese
Beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2025
Construction operations in East River Park require the closure of the Greenway, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. To access East River Park Track & Field area, use entrances at E. 6th Street and E. Houston Street. To access new southern amenities, use the Delancey Street Bridge. Full access plan available on the ESCR website.

Closure of the E. 10th Street Bridge & East River Park North Amenities | Spanish | Chinese
As early as Tuesday, May 27, 2025
Upcoming closures include the E. 10th Street Pedestrian Bridge and areas north of the Track & Field, including:

  • 10th Street Playground, BBQ Area, and Basketball Courts
  • Northern esplanade and access to Stuyvesant Cove Park
Future scheduled closures include Field 6 on July 1, 2025, and the Track & Field area early September. Advisories to follow.

Preparation for E. 13th Street Floodwall Construction in East River Park & FDR Drive | Chinese
Beginning in Spring 2025
To facilitate the construction of the E. 13th Street Floodwall, preparatory operations will be taking place in East River Park and on the FDR Drive. Access to portions of the Greenway may be temporarily limited to ensure safety. Partial FDR Drive lane closures will be in effect during this time. Please follow detours and all on-site signage to ensure safety. Please note that some of these activities will take place at night, and they may be loud and disruptive. Noise & air quality monitors are in place.

Localized Hazardous Soil Removal in Ballfields 7 & 8 | Chinese
Beginning Friday, March 7, 2025
The removal of the lead soil will proceed with the public's safety at top priority. This work will be conducted in accordance with the previously accepted Material Handling Plan (MHP), Environmental Health and Safety Plan (EHASP) and Community Air Monitoring Plan (CAMP). A Community Air Monitoring Plan (CAMP) will be conducted during the hazardous soil removal process in addition to the daily Air Quality Monitoring conducted throughout the project site.

Floodwall Operations Resume at Montgomery Street and South Street | Spanish | Chinese
Expected Completion: Summer 2025
Floodwall operations will resume at Montgomery Street and South Street, and will extend towards Water Street. This operation will necessitate a sidewalk closure along Montgomery St, between Water Street and South Street and a partial sidewalk closure on South Street at the corner of Montgomery St. (Building access will remain on South St.) Vehicle lane width reductions will occur on South St. and Montgomery Street. Please follow all signs and directions placed onsite to ensure safety.

Work Begins in East River Park Ballfields 7 & 8 | Spanish | Chinese
Starting week of December 2, 2024
Upcoming deep sewer work requires the closure of Ballfields 7 & 8, as part of the ongoing transition into Phase 2 of construction. Park access will remain via E. Houston Street, the E. 6th Street bridge, and the E. 10th Street bridge, along with access to Stuyvesant Cove Park to the north. Refer to advisory map for open amenities. Please follow onsite signage. Noise and air monitors are in place.

Delancey Street Bridge and East River Park Ballfields 1 & 2 Opening | Spanish | Chinese
September 2, 2024, open daily from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm
We are pleased to announce the opening of the Delancey St. Pedestrian Bridge and East River Park Ballfields 1 & 2 for permitted and open play! For field permitting, please contact the Parks Department. The bridge will provide access to Ballfields 1 & 2 only, with no outlet to other areas of the park. Please note there is no water service on site, so plan accordingly to bring your own supply.

Passive Lawn Closure | Spanish | Chinese
March 11, 2024, ongoing until further notice
The East River Park Passive Lawn will require a full closure to facilitate the assembly and installation of the new Delancey Street Bridge. Noise and air monitors will be in place. Access to the Corlears Hook Ferry and Pier 42 will not be affected.

Work Begins in East River Park Ballfields 3, 4, and 5 | Spanish | Chinese
Starting the week of December 18, 2023, ongoing until further notice
Mobilization and preparatory work will begin for the closure of Ballfields 3, 4, and 5 to facilitate deep sewer and esplanade work as part of the transition into Phase 2. The E. Houston St. park entrance will remain open. Please follow onsite signage. Noise and air monitors are in place.

New Access Pattern for E. Houston St. Overpass | Spanish | Chinese
Starting Friday, October 13, 2023
Construction activities will necessitate the closure of the E. Houston Street Overpass north ramp and shift pedestrian access to the FDR Drive E. Houston Street on-ramp.

  • Park amenities will not be impacted.
  • One lane of on-ramp traffic will be maintained.
  • Pedestrian and vehicles should follow all posted signs and striping.

Security booth and pedestrian crosswalk into park will be shifted north.

FDR Drive Northbound Montgomery Street On-Ramp Shift and Ramp Closure | Spanish | Chinese
Starting Friday, September 22, 2023, Ongoing until further notice
Construction activities will necessitate the shift of the FDR Drive northbound Montgomery Street on-ramp onto the East River Park Greenway. Traffic on the FDR Drive will be maintained.
Vehicles should follow all posted signs and striping.

E. Houston St. with FDR Dr. Exit 5 NB Ramp Lane Closure | Spanish | Chinese
Starting June 16, 2023, ongoing until further notice. Working Hours: 10:00pm – 6:00am
For driver and vehicle safety, construction activities will necessitate one lane closure of the FDR Drive Exit 5 northbound exit ramp (Houston Street). One lane of traffic on exit ramp will be maintained at all times. Vehicles should follow posted signs and on-site instruction while closures are in effect. Noise and air monitors will be in place prior to the start of these activities.

Sidewalk Closure at Montgomery Street under FDR Drive | Spanish | Chinese
Ongoing until further notice
Construction activities will necessitate the closure of the sidewalk at Montgomery Street under FDR Drive (north side). This change will be in place 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Traffic will be maintained and pedestrian detour is in effect. Please follow all signs and directions placed on-site to ensure safety.

No Curbside Parking: Cherry St. between FDR Dr. and Jackson St. | Spanish | Chinese
September 1, 2022, until further notice
Please be advised that no curbside parking restrictions will be in effect due to construction at Corlears Hook Park. "No Parking" signs will be posted by the contractor throughout the affected area. To avoid possible towing of your vehicle, please make note of the signs posted. Emergency vehicles and pedestrian access will be maintained at all time.

Corlears Hook Temporary Bridge and New Access | Spanish | Chinese
Week of June 6, 2022
Corlears Hook temporary pedestrian bridge to open the week of June 6th, 2022, providing access to Corlears Hook Ferry landing and passive lawn. Construction activities will necessitate the closure of the Corlears Hook Park flagpole area and Corlears Hook Bridge. To access open park areas use entrances at Jackson Street and west entrances on Cherry Street. Please follow all on-site signage while closures are in effect to ensure safety. Noise and air monitors are in place.

Work begins in ESCR Project Area 1 | Spanish | Chinese
Starting the week of November 1, 2021
Phased work operations are scheduled to begin at East River Park. Closures within the Park and pedestrian detours will take place to accommodate equipment transport and construction fencing. Advisories and Bulletins will be posted here as developed. For vehicle and pedestrian safety, follow all signage while detours are in effect.
