Brooklyn Community District 2 (BK2) will be the second NYC neighborhood to containerize 100% of its trash.
The bins your property uses will be determined based on the number of residential units.
Larger residential properties – all with 31 or more residential units, and some with 10-30 residential units – will place their trash out for collection in Empire Bins. All other properties will set out their trash in official NYC Bins.
ALL residential properties in Brooklyn's Community District 2 will be required to put their trash in containers by fall 2026.
Learn which bins your property will use:
Properties with 31 or more residential units are REQUIRED to use Empire Bins for trash.
Empire Bins are assigned to a specific property, solely for the use of that property. These bins are locked, accessible ONLY by building staff and waste managers using access cards assigned to the bins.
