NEW YORK, NY – Today, Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Commissioner Vilda Vera Mayuga issued the agency’s annual Holiday Shopping Tips to help consumers emerge victorious this holiday season. With these useful multilingual tips, New Yorkers will be able to guard their wallets against seasonal scams and overspending while also learning how to create a budget and become smarter shoppers.
“We all know that winning the holidays involves more than finding the perfect gift for the loved one who has everything—it’s about doing it without breaking the bank. That’s where the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection steps in,” said DCWP Commissioner Vilda Vera Mayuga. “Whether you’re shopping online or in stores, DCWP’s Holiday Shopping Tips will help you spend, save, and plan responsibly—and protect you from the pitfalls that can derail your holiday. That means a full-court press against Buy Now Pay Later traps that encourage overspending, AI-generated ads pushing fake or nonexistent products, and sneaky auto-enroll features buried in the fine print that can saddle consumers with unwanted charges or debt. Together, let’s shop wisely, stay alert, and win this holiday season.”
