The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Commissioner Samuel Levine issued the following statement addressing Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Executive Order on establishing Citywide Rental Ripoff Hearings:
At a time when rents are surging for so many New Yorkers, nobody should face hidden junk fees or abusive practices by landlords – and Mayor Mamdani’s executive order to establish Citywide Rental Ripoff Hearings helps deliver on the City’s responsibility to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to affordable housing.
We look forward to working with partner agencies to organize and conduct a series of public hearings across the five boroughs to hear directly from New Yorkers experiencing predatory landlord practices, and we are prepared to use every tool at our disposal to deliver more affordable housing for the people of this city.
