Article 6 of the New York State Public Officers Law is known as the Freedom of Information Law ("FOIL"). This law allows you to request records from New York State or local government agencies.
All Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests to the Civil Service Commission should be submitted via NYC Open Records.
IMPORTANT: Before submitting a request for records to the Civil Service Commission, please ensure that your request is being submitted to the appropriate agency. Please note that certain records you are seeking may not be maintained by the Commission, such as 311 complaints, police reports for stolen items, police body worn camera footage, criminal records, fire incident records, marriage records, etc.
Please also note that certain records you are seeking may be considered legally exempt from disclosure, including, in some cases, records submitted by a City agency in your appeal to the Civil Service Commission. Accordingly, such records may be either withheld from disclosure and/or provided in a redacted form.
