New York Fire Department
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) protects the lives and property of New York City residents and visitors by advancing public safety through its fire prevention, investigation and education programs. FDNY Bureau of Fire Prevention issues separate permits in the areas of fuel, generators, HVAC/heating, open flame, and pyrotechnics. In these cases, the FDNY requires an on-site inspection, submission of application papers, and a fee for services. For inquiries or instructions to request an inspection and apply for permits, contact FDNY.BusinessSupport@fdny.nyc.gov or call 311.
FDNY permits include:
- Fuel Permit: to use and/or store fuel for cooking and/or equipment, including but not limited to kerosene, propane, charcoal/wood, etc.
- Generator/battery Permit: to use portable generators with an aggregate fuel storage tank capacity exceeding two and half gallons of gasoline and/or 10 gallons of diesel. To operate outdoor battery systems with an aggregate rated energy capacity exceeding 20 kWh.

If you plan to have Portable Fire Extinguishes at your event, you will need to have the New PFE Tag.
