The Department of Buildings (DOB) looks forward to connecting with our industry partners and the general public. Our events are designed to keep industry members and all New Yorkers abreast of industry trends, operational updates to collaborate better with DOB and safe construction operations. Check this page frequently for upcoming DOB events!
In response to the Get Sheds Down plan, DOB is soliciting ideas on novel designs for sidewalk sheds and alternative pedestrian protection measures and wants you tp submit your ideas for what pedestrian protection will look like in our City. The deadline to submit a proposal is Thursday, October 5, 2023. See the official RFP. The Department will review every proposal received and will be specifically looking for designs that are a departure from the standardized sidewalk shed aesthetic and improves the pedestrian experience.
NOTE: The Get Sheds Down Plan works to reduce the number of construction sidewalk sheds in the City, while improving the physical design of these pedestrian protection structures. Watch video of the launch.
Department borough offices will be open for Buildings After Hours on the first and third Tuesday of the month from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Homeowners, tenants, small business owners, and building managers may attend Buildings After Hours the following Tuesdays throughout the remainder of 2023:
Buildings After Hours is designed for homeowners, tenants, building managers, and small business owners to visit their local borough office where DOB staff can answer questions and provide the information needed to plan for a home renovation or construction project, address an open violation on a property, obtain more information about a property, or use online resources including the Buildings Information System (BIS) and DOB NOW.
Staff from the following offices will be available at every borough office: borough commissioner’s office, borough operations, development inspections, enforcement inspections, and plan examination. Staff from the Administrative Enforcement Unit will be available in the Manhattan borough office. Please continue to use DOB NOW and eFiling for all applicable online services.
NOTE: Face masks are required and must be worn at all times while in DOB office locations.
Our bi-weekly online Q&A Session for property owners, registered design professionals, filing representatives and other licensees/registrants provides a space for attendees to ask job specific questions for filings in DOB NOW, the Buildings Information System (BIS), or general questions about permits, Construction Codes, Zoning Regulations, sign offs, certificates of occupancy, place of assembly, equipment installations, violations and civil penalties, etc.
To register, choose the session you would like to attend, access the link and follow the instructions. Make sure to sign up for the appropriate session for the borough in which the property is located. Once registered, you will be emailed the login information on the morning of the event.
