Many patients at Queens Hospital speak English as a second language. When language barriers exist, it is difficult for healthcare givers and patients alike to communicate with confidence. Accurate language translation and interpretation services reduce medical errors and increase a patient's full participation in important healthcare decisions. Please ask if you prefer to communicate with your healthcare worker in a language other than English, through an interpreter.
Queens Hospital Center has decades of experience caring for those who speak little or no English. In addition to interpretation services, our language services also include:
Telephonic Services: Enables our patients to have immediate access to professional interpretation services in 120 languages, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Print and electronic publications: Our policies, health education materials, discharge instructions and many other written communications are available in the 12 "HHC languages," in addition to English, spoken by the majority of patients. The languages include Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Russian and Urdu.
