What is HHC Options?
HHC Options is a financial assistance program that allows you to pay for medical care on a sliding fee scale based on household income and family size. It is designed to assist uninsured NYC residents, either single or with dependents, who are not eligible for Medicaid because of their income or immigration status.
For more information on HHC Options visit: www.nyc.gov/html/hhc/html/access/hhc_options.shtml.
Lincoln has a strict policy that all information regarding income and/or immigration status collected during the financial screening process will be kept strictly confidential.
What’s covered?
If you are eligible for the program, you can begin exchanging creative services for healthcare, including doctor visits, hospitalization, emergency care, medical and surgical procedures, prescription drugs, diagnostic tests and screenings.
How Does it Work?
Once enrolled in the program, you are scheduled to perform at different events and/or departments in the hospital. For each hour of artistic activity, 40 credits are added to your healthcare account. 40 credits = $40.00. Credits are exchanged for an equal value of healthcare services in dollars. When you need healthcare, the fee is charged to your Lincoln Art Exchange account.
For example, if Mark taught calligraphy to adolescents in the Teen Center for one hour, we place 40 credits into his healthcare account. If Mark’s doctor visit costs $20.00 (based on his fee scale), 20 credits are deducted from his account. The result? Mark can visit the doctor and have enough credits left for another visit or prescriptions, at no cost to him.
The length of participation in the program varies from person to person. You can exchange artistic services as long as there is a need or just a few times to help pay for your healthcare. There is no minimum participation required.
