The Gouverneur Eye Center offers complete eye care for children, adolescents and adults. Our dedicated team of Board Certified Ophthalmologists, licensed Optometrists and Ophthalmic Technicians perform basic eye exams and vision tests using state-of-the-art equipment to treat a wide variety of eye and vision problems with medication and minor surgery.

We work closely with primary care providers and specialists to ensure continuity of care for patients. The Eye Center recommends regular checkups to keep eyes healthy and detect eye problems early. Conditions commonly treated at the Eye Center include:

• Dry Eye
• Glaucoma (increased Eye Pressure)
• Cataract (Clouding of the Lens)
• Diabetic Retinopathy (Blood Vessel Damage)
• Macular Degeneration (Deterioration of the Retina)

Patients who need to see an Optometrist for a vision test or a prescription for eyeglasses do not need a referral. Same day appointments are available.

For your convenience, eyeglass prescriptions can be filled through our on-site vendor, Eyes & Optics.

After you get an eyeglass prescription from one of our providers, you can choose from a wide variety of eyeglass frames at affordable prices. Your glasses will be ready for pick up in less than a week.

Contact lenses are placed directly on the eye and improve eyesight without the use of glasses. The staff at Eyes & Optics will fill your contact lens prescription and make sure the lenses are properly fitted to your eyes.

Minor surgery is available to patients to restore or improve certain eye or eyelid conditions that may lead to vision loss or blindness.

Routine eye exams and checkups for existing eye problems are important to protect your vision. Eye problems can go unnoticed, especially in young children.

• Adults up to age 40 should have their eyes checked every 5 years (more if there are vision problems or eye injuries).
• Adults age 40-60 should have their eyes checked every 2-4 years.
• Adults over age 65 should have their eyes checked every 1-2 years.
• People with diabetes have higher risk for eye problems and should have their eyes checked every year.
• Any patient with family history of blindness or glaucoma should have a complete eye exam every year.
• Vision screening can be performed for children as young as newborns.
