New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission Commissioner David Do is the first in his role to obtain a hack license and drive TLC-licensed vehicles while holding office.

In a series titled “Commissioner Cab,” which debuted in Nov. 2024, Do navigates the streets of New York to find trips and deliver passengers—the daily task of the roughly 180,000 drivers he regulates.

Commissioner Do went through the standard process of attaining his TLC license in January 2023 and began making trips soon after. As he also explains in the series, whenever he heads out to a taxi or for-hire base to obtain a vehicle, he takes time to speak with base managers, staff, and drivers. Driving a mile in their shoes fuels the episodes and their unique themes.
