In September of 2022, the CoC Youth Committee was integrated into the ongoing efforts of the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project (YHDP). This shift has allowed existing members of the Youth Committee to become more closely involved in YHDP, which currently represents the most significant area of work in the NYC CoC portfolio pertaining specifically to youth and young adults.
In September of 2021, New York City was awarded a $15 million grant through HUD’s Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP). This award was the result of an extensive application process involving the CoC Youth Action Board, city agencies, coalitions and non-profit service providers. Through a robust and collaborative planning process, the YHDP community accomplished two things:
The OSH Steering Committee seeks to have broad representation from young people with lived experience of homelessness, youth service providers, coalition members and government agencies. The YYA RRH Workgroup was created with the goal of supporting full integration into the CAPS system of all NYC RRH providers serving youth and young adults. The workgroup also strives to create a supportive network for YYA RRH providers to coordinate resources, learn and grow.
