FDNY publishes fourth report on the health impacts of rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center (2001-2026)

On September 1, 2026, to coincide with the 25th commemoration of the September 11th terrorist attacks, the Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY) released the fourth edition of the "FDNY September 11th Health Impacts Report.”
“As we prepare to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, this report provides the latest information on the lasting health impacts of that day and highlights the World Trade Center Health Program’s critical work to support those exposed at the World Trade Center site. We owe it to the FDNY members, first responders and their families who have carried this burden for decades to continue investing and acting on what we know,” said Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. “We will never forget their sacrifice. And we will never stop fighting to ensure they receive the care, dignity and support they have earned through a lifetime of service to our city.
“As we mark this milestone anniversary, the FDNY is releasing an updated WTC health report. Nearly 16,000 of our rescue and recovery workers have been part of the FDNY WTC Health Program and contributed to this report, making it the most comprehensive post-disaster health accounting ever conducted,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “The data collected through this work and shared through FDNY medical and scientific publications helped demonstrate to Congress that our concerns were real and ongoing. That evidence has ensured that the WTC Health Program can continue to help FDNY members for the remainder of our lifetimes.“
Earlier editions were released in 2007, 2016 and 2021.
