In New York City, fire and life safety is all about being #FDNYSmart! What does that mean? It means being prepared for, and preventing, fires and other emergencies. The FDNY Community Affairs Unit has assembled teams of members to tackle these ongoing public safety issues. Dispatched daily across the five boroughs, FDNY's educators have become a critical component of the Department’s mission to keep the Big Apple safe.

New York City's state-of-the-art fire safety learning center featuring Firefighter-led presentations in a fire simulator theater.
New York City Fire Museum
In conjunction with the FDNY, a world-class fire safety education learning center featuring classroom training and fire simulation.
Fire Prevention Week
Observed during the week in which October 9 falls, Fire Prevention Week is a longstanding tradition and call to action.
CPR/AED Awareness Week
Every year, from June 1 to June 7, CPR and AED Awareness Week turns the spotlight on hands-only CPR and the chain of survival.
Burn Awareness Week
During the first full week in February, educators share burn awareness and prevention methods.
Open Houses
Firehouses and EMS stations open their doors to the community to educate, conduct demonstrations, discuss FDNY careers and offer tours.
Block Parties
Every summer, the Department hosts a series of classic New York City block parties featuring games, food and educational outreach.
FDNY Foundation
Established in 1981 as the Fire Safety Education Fund, FDNY Foundation is the official not-for-profit organization of the New York City Fire Department. Its core mission is to fund fire and life safety education and support the Department's lifesaving mission. With help from the FDNY Foundation, its Partners and the community-at-large the Department can continue to grow its educational programs and make New York City safer.
