Construction Culture+Data (CC+D) Working Group

Construction Culture+Data (CC+D): This new working group combines the efforts of the prior Systemic Construction Data Analytic (SCDA) working group with the exploration of the nexus between culture and data begun at the 11/14/19 Culture+Data for Better Project Delivery symposium event. For the earliest work demonstrating administrative data are amenable to data analytic techniques to produce insight for construction process management that Town+Gown supported with data analytic students (see video). The SCDA working group had expanded these initial analyses by using city-wide data from the Capital Project Dashboard and using granular DDC project data to generate additional insights.

Town+Gown posts the following student project deliverables done for the working group, first, to document the work and second, for them to serve as research resources for future students doing projects in this area. Many of these projects are data science projects, and, as a caveat, the primary value of these data science-based deliverables as research resources is for the project background; any literature review results; approaches considered and approaches used; the resulting methodologies developed and used; and the areas the students identified for future research. Future students (and anyone else reviewing these deliverables) should consider any findings as provisional and contingent on the subsequent analyses. The need to consider most findings provisional and contingent, especially for data science-related projects, is due to data limitations at the time of the project, the time constraints for the students to do the work, and the greater context for the particular project that may not have been able to inform the work because it was out of scope for the project.
