IMPORTANT - Please be advised that on April 2, 2024, the Department of Buildings announced that a Notice of Intent to Revoke was issued to Valor Consulting. All Site Safety Training (SST) cards and certificates issued by Valor have been invalidated by the Department. SST cards issued by providers other than Valor will also be invalid if certificates issued by Valor were used to issue Site Safety Training Cards. Anyone who holds a SST card issued by Valor should immediately be retrained by a different course provider.
Find and obtain DOB-approved course provider information. New York City regulations allow construction workers to obtain a Temporary SST card from an approved provider after taking 10 hours of safety training. These temporary cards allow individuals to work on SST work sites for six months, during which time workers must take the additional 30 hours of training courses to obtain a full SST card which is good for five years. Eligible workers can apply for no-cost training provided by the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS). Visit the Site Safety Training page for additional SST program information and requirements for workers on the City’s larger and more complex construction sites.
The NYCDOB Training Connect Site Safety Training Card combines all your SST ID card information on one card and is the only SST ID card the NYC Department of Buildings will accept as valid proof of worker site safety training. The NYCDOB Training Connect SST ID card replaces all previously issued SST ID cards and is the card DOB will accept as valid proof of worker site safety training. Enforcement action will be taken if DOB finds a worker is not appropriately trained and does not have the NYCDOB Training Connect SST ID card.
If you have previously completed a Department approved training course, you may already have earned credit for some of your SST required hours. Please refer to the DOB-approved Site Safety Training (SST) Course Equivalent document to learn more.
